1934 Plymouth PFXX “Special Six” AACA Grand National First Prize Winner

Chrysler was a sales monster during the 1930's, capturing 25% of the market, offering more value for dollar that than the cheaper Ford of the Era. '33 was a banner year so Plymouth doubled down with a new and improved model for '34. The PFXX “Special Six” was equipped with a straight 6-cylinder engine, 'floating power' engine mounts, 4-wheel hydraulic brakes, an all-steel body, riding on a 108” wheelbase. They came with an advanced independent front suspension that used unequal A arms. The front coil springs, made from a rod of spring steel originally 12 feet 3 inches long, combined with double acting shock absorbers to achieve a much smoother ride than had been possible before. In the rear, Oilite leaf springs were used. The springs had a rubber cushion mount at the front of the spring while the rear was fitted with a silent U shackle. Steel Artillery Wheels round out the package.

The PFXX came handsomely appointed, chrome-plated grill, chrome windshield frame, twin trumpet horns, twin taillights, chrome headlight shells, interior sun visor, and an ash tray and glove compartment on the dashboard.

This four door Sedan version of the PFXX is a concours restored, showing 79 miles since completion, is a Concours show winning example. Earning AACA National First Prize Winner in 2013 and a Grand National First Prize Winner in 2014 in addition to six other Concours honors. Overall, a benchmark exemplar of an iconic Plymouth, ahead of its time and proof positive that excellence sells even during the Great Depression.
