1954 Buick Skylark Model 100 Convertible

The 1954 Buick Skylark Model 100 Convertible is the most beautiful design penned by famed GM stylist, Harley Earl. For '54 the Skylark Model 100 Convertible became its own range topping model. Items commonly reserved for Cadillac, power steering, power brakes, power seats, power windows, and wire wheels with wide whitewalls. This was the quintessential '50's luxury sports car for the rich and famous. Only 836 Skylarks were made.

This example had a famous owner and rich history. This was the personal car of Ralph Engelstad. Mr. Engelstad was owner of the Imperial Palace casino-hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a controversial figure to be sure. In automotive circles he his best known for opening The Auto Collections in 1981 and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Auto Collections was comprised mostly of Mr. Engelstad's private collection. This car was one of his favorite cars to drive and was permanent part museum until it's closing on December 30th, 2017.

It was born in Arctic White with Red Leather but Mr. Engelstad liked in better in black. The exterior gleams in Carlsbad Black with Matador Red wheel coves over Red Leather “waffle stitched” interior. The chrome shines like the strip at night. The interior shows a gentle pantina, much better than the 83,868 original miles reflected on the odometer, is in overall excellent condition. The car has benefitted from a complete mechanical, courtesy of its current owner, and is road ready. The engine bay and chassis are dry and clean, and yet, show normal wear from a car that meant to be driven; craves to be driven indulgently. This Skylark is a testament to how it was used, a road worthy motor car that is a joy to drive and implacably maintained as a true museum piece. It is a paradox, perhaps a perfect reflection of man who owned it the longest.
