1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Restomod, sweet MONEY
At first glance, this Fathom Green 454 Big Block powered Chevelle SS is a pro-touring style sleeper. Look deeper, or just listen when the dual-mode exhaust is on “LOUD”, and you'll see a that this boulevard bruiser is anything but “sleepy”. It is like the perfect dish featured on Triple D, just the right combination of sweet, savory, saltiness, and just a touch of pucker.
This car strikes a good balance between old school custom and modern day modified. The exterior is subtle, a savory Fathom Green, Black Stripes, iconic Cragar S/S wheels. It doesn't even have a flapper hood. There really isn't much outwardly that tells you that this a 500hp+ corner carver. But it is.
The foundation for all that power is a solid one. Factory frame, mounted with fresh bushings, fitted with a full Hotchkis performance system, QA-1 Coil Overs on all four corners, and four-wheel disc brakes. Fat tires round out the handling package.
The engine bay is a Jewelry Box that Chip Foose always talks about, an uncluttered presentation of the diamond in the center. This pro-built 454 produced gobs of torque and monstrous horsepower, all on pump gas. It is a beautiful savage, polished aluminum and chrome; custom billet touches in places most other overlook. When is the last time you got excited about hood hinges? Sweetness.
The dual-mode high flow exhaust has plenty of thump when the spent gas is exiting the back, like the rhythm track to your favorite ZZ Top track. Hit the button on the dash and it's jackhammers and machine guns! Salty and with a crunch that your Prius driving neighbors will be pissed about. If it leaves a sour note or a lingering bitterness, that might be a bonus.
The cabin is stock, with some noted improvements to the dash. Factory seats, console, and door cards were left alone. Why mess with factory perfection? Afterall, you want to be driving a Chevelle, right? It better look like one. The 50 year-old gauge tech was tossed in favor of modern precision telematics. The billet from the engine bay is also pulled into the cockpit, still in harmony with the original soft trim. The stereo system is hidden in the glove box. In a nod of homage the analogue, the dash din is filled with a brackets for twin stop watches. Hey, if you go fast and you know it, you've gotta be prepared to prove it! And that is money. Which is what the entire car is named, the plates read M O N E Y. And anyone who pulls up on you in this Chevelle will be treated to a dish best served cold and left feeling a little green.
