1965 Oldsmobile 442 4-speed Red over Red, March of the Muscle Cars Preview!
The 1965 Oldsmobile 442 is one of the original GM A Body Muscle Cars. The original product selling information book touted as "Police Needed It-Olds Built It-Pursuit Proved It". The formula was in the name,
4 Barrel Carburetion, plus high lift cam, and Ultra High-Compression V-8 to 310hp, 20hp more than the standard Cutlass.
4 On-The-Floor stick shift syncromesh transmission (This would later become to mean 400 cubic inch V8 once they introduced automatic 442's)
2 Dual Exhaust, complete dual exhaust system features less back pressure for better performance (and aluminized for longer life.) So the brochure goes!
This example is equipped with the first year available 400 CI V8, M21 4-speed, and 3.55:1 Posi rear. The "police package for the public" also came with heavy-duty shocks and springs for smoother cornering and better pitch control. A new rear stabilizer bar reduces roll, provides flatter cornering and better handling. The dual-snorkel air cleaner improves engine breathing. The higher lift camshaft helps boost power performance. It is also equipped with a bigger bottom end. The extra high quality rod and main bearings ensured a longer life in high-performance driving.
The 442 has been in the same family in east Tennessee since 1982, where the car also sold new. The car was repainted in 1985. Most all the sheetmetal is original aside some metal patches welded into the original trunk pan. The exterior stainless trim and light bezels have been rechromed. The interior is also highly original with only a refresh of new carpets and seatcovers. The drivetrain is all original and has never been apart.
She is restored to factory stock specifications according to the original window sticker. Imagine, in 1965, rolling up next the typical cream drab sedan in this red over red hardtop. Chrome road wheels wrapped in redlines accent rest of the brightwork beautifly. The bucket seat console interior is desgined around the polished Muncie 4-speed shifter and "knee knocker" tach. The drivetrain is numbers matching and original to the car. This is car is collector quality, to be sure. But, it is also meant to be driven and enjoyed. This car does both and very well.
This beauty will be fully cataloged and sold in Rev Muscle Car's exclusive March of the Muscle Cars Auction. If you would like more information please call (847) 665-8448
