1968 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 Convertible, March of the Muscle Cars Preview!
This Dodge Coronet R/T Convertible is one of only 297 Automatics produced in 1968 and one of only three as equipped. Deep Racing Green (GG1), so rich it looks black, is accented by S6X Black Interior and Black Top and offset by Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in Redlines. Born a Bumblebee Stripe delete car, midnight green is accented by red tail stripe, pulling together the red accents of the R/T Badges and Coker radials. The result is an eye-grabbing gorgeous.
The Deluxe Black bucket seat interior is unique, even among the “order however you want it” mindset common at Chrysler in the 1960's. It is a bucket seat console car, the way most would order it today, with the added twist of the 727 Torque-Flite being shifted on the column. You know the mighty 440 Magnum can command the road with the 150mph Speedometer fixed at the center of the gauge cluster. No cartoons or insect gimmicks, just power and purpose- the R/T means pleasure on the road and business on the track. This interior configuration and trim level feel upscale and clean compared to compared to Road Runner's “taxi-cab” innards.
The restoration of this R/T represents the best of both worlds. The car was rotisserie restored with an attention to OEM detail using mostly New Old Stock (NOS) parts. Where NOS was not feasible, only the best, concours quality, reproductions were incorporated into the build. The soft trim and convertible top is sourced from Legendary Auto Interiors. The exhaust system, from Accurate Exhaust. The Redline tires look like factory Redlines, but are 17” radials by Coker. The only things not dead-nuts stock are those which add pleasure to the driving experience. 4-wheel power disc brakes, 17” Aluminum Magnum 500 “road” wheels, a 95 Amp Alternator, and a custom aluminum 4-core radiator with quad electric fans. This car will ride out with a smooth confidence on any stretch of highway and stay cool in any climate.
So here it is, the 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T Convertible answers that age old question, “Do I choose the safety of the state of the art in concours restorations or the freedom of a restomod I can take open throttle on the open road? This car says- that dichotomy is FALSE and the answer isn't “Either Or” it is, “YES And”…it is waiting for you.
Professional inspection forthcoming. This beauty will be fully cataloged and sold in Rev Muscle Car's exclusive March of the Muscle Cars Auction. If you would like more information please call (847) 665-8448.
