2008 Shelby GT500KR #237, One Owner, 4,560 original miles!
2008 Shelby GT500KR #08KR0237
When Ford's SVT department developed GT500, it was a revolutionary act when it rolled out in 2007. After driving the final product Carroll, he was pleased but not completely satisfied. He knew his crew could bring more out of the platform. The 40th Anniversary Edition of Shelby properly celebrated 1968 GT500 KR model in a joint build effort between Ford SVT and Shelby Automobiles and Carroll Shelby, sleeves rolled up, at the helm. #237's life started life as one of just 1,000 limited editions, hand-built vehicles which began production as standard GT500's in Ford's Romeo, MI Assembly Plant and finished their manufacturing journey in the hollowed halls of Shelby American in Las Vegas, NV. Once the GT500 completed its transformation into the King of the Road, it was then shipped to the original selling dealership. This is the same way Shelby and Ford did it to begin with in 1965. The results are truly stunning.
The Ford aluminum lid was jettisoned in favor of a fully functional, ultra-lightweight Carbon Fiber hood. Working cold air intakes and heat extraction elements were styled to recall the iconic look of the '68 KR with uncanny aplomb. Operational Scotch Lock hood pins Carbon fiber accents, like mirror skull caps and Aerodynamic Splitter complete the homage to the original King. The hood, 15 pounds lighter. The front splitter makes 50 pounds on the front axles, reducing drag three percent. The rear wing was new as well, reducing drag and helping move the center of aerodynamic pressure forward. The chassis re-tuned to be 17% stiffer front and rear compared to the standard GT500. Ride height drops 20 mm up front and 15 in the back. The KR means business and Carroll Shelby knew his business. The result is a flatter, more neutral ride and handling experience while also handling even more horsepower than the standard GT500 could muster. 18” Forged Aluminum Shelby GT500KR Wheels are shod in Goodyear Track/Street Performance Tires keep the drama down. The KR pulls harder, corners better, turns in crisper, grips higher, and stops shorter. It is the difference between large car company 'can do' and small racing company 'know how'.
#237 was purchased by the first and current owner on May 13th of 2009 and shows a mere 4,560 miles on the odometer. More details to follow…
